Royal watchers were thrilled after Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, made a special appearance at this year’s Wimbledon final – while undergoing cancer treatment.
The Princess left her fans delighted after being back in public, accompanied by her daughter Princess Charlotte, in the royal box. Several keen-eyed royal aficionados noticed something rather special about Kate, who appeared to be honouring her late mother-in-law Princess Diana during the special event.
During the outing on July 14, The Princess of Wales donned a gorgeous purple dress by fashion house Safiyaa. It was the very striking colour that Princess Diana wore 33 years ago. In a further echo to the her late mother-in-law, Kate Middleton also adopted a similar pose to Diana, with Kate posing alongside Charlotte to watch the match.
Royal fans took to social media to express their awe, with one fan posting on Instagram: “1991 vs 2024: Two loving mothers at Wimbledon.” Usually, most children aren’t allowed in the royal box – but exceptions have been granted for royal children in the past. For instance, Prince George sat alongside his parents in the ultra-exclusive section of Centre Court in both 2022 and 2023. Notably, Prince and William and Prince George weren’t spotted at the finals – as they travelled to Berlin to watch England take on Spain in the Euros 2024 final.
Having taken on the title that was previously held by Diana, experts have made the suggestion that the current Princess of Wales was inspired by her late mother-in-law when selecting her stunning dress. This is because it’s the first time Kate had worn purple to the event.
