With a lackluster score of 7 over par, Spieth was at the T69th position after round 3. The 13-time PGA Tour winner was second to last. However, there is a reason for his poor performance. Spieth Legion, the golfer’s fan page recently made a post on X, sympathizing with the golfer and blaming his lousy gameplay on his injured wrist. “Just going through the motions, sadly. The surgery can’t come soon enough; it is very hard to watch him struggle like this.” And indeed, it is.

The golfer’s wrist injury occurred before last year’s PGA Championship and has been a lingering issue ever since. Spieth had described it as a “come-and-go thing” and said that it can be triggered by even the smallest actions, like placing his hand on a counter. However, the golfer didn’t opt for surgery, as he believed that didn’t need one at that time. “It’s not really a surgical thing; it’s a rest thing,” he said, according to AP News. Although, that has now changed as Spieth is now planning to have surgery in the off-season.

Fans have watched the player struggle the whole 2024 season. Sadly, Spieth has missed seven cuts this year so far, including one at the Masters. That’s not all; the golfer only has three top-10 finishes, so now you know why his name is under scrutiny this time.
