‘Media Love the Negative Story’: Adam Scott’s Dad Once Jabbed Son’s Critics With a Powerful Truth

Adam Scott is recognized in the golf world for his unconventional putting style, which has faced its share of criticism. The golfer doesn’t use a conventional-length putter or putting style. Instead, he lets his hands hang in front of his body and grips his elongated putter like a broomstick, with his left hand positioned near his sternum. However, his father, Phil Scott, does not agree with the criticism his son had to endure and has a different perspective about it which he revealed five years ago.

In 2019 Scott Sr talked about his son with Australian Golf Digest. In the long interview, most of the questions revolved around Adam Scott’s putting. While discussing this, Phil Scott was also asked about his feelings regarding his son being heavily criticized for his putting throughout much of his career. In the response, he just blamed it on the media.

Initially, Phil took his son’s stats into account and said, “He’s won roughly 30 events, been No. 1 in the world, won the Masters… It can’t be too bad. He’s always been a streaky putter, even as a junior golfer, and can miss the unexpected short one more than others, so I think it often looks worse than it is.”
