Andy Murray left a cheeky comment on one of Roger Federer’s social media posts as the Swiss star returned to the US Open.

Federer visited New York to promote his new project and headed to Flushing Meadows on Tuesday night to watch Frances Tiafoe and co.

After he shared a photo dump of his time in the Big Apple, Murray joked that the 20-time Grand Slam champion had “let himself go”.

Since retiring at the 2022 Laver Cup, Federer has never been too far away from tennis. Over the last couple of years, he has made appearances at Wimbledon and the ATP events in Halle and Shanghai. And earlier this week, he returned to the US Open.

The 42-year-old was seen watching Aryna Sabalenka vs Qinwen Zheng and Grigor Dimitrov vs Frances Tiafoe from the comfort of a suite in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday and received a standing ovation when he was shown on the big screen.

Away from the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Centre, Federer also enjoyed some pizza and filmed a sneaker shopping video while promoting his new Assouline photography book. He documented his trip in a series of photos on Instagram which caught Murray’s eye.

“Wow you’ve really let yourself go in retirement. What a shame,” the three-time Grand Slam champion commented, adding a disappointed emoji.

Murray recently joined Federer in retirement, ending his career at the Olympics last month. The Scot teamed up with Dan Evans in the men’s doubles event and they reached the quarter-finals before crashing out to American duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.

The 37-year-old has been focusing on another sport since hanging up his racket, turning his hand to golf. Ahead of the Olympics, Murray said his goal for retirement was to become a scratch golfer.

The former world No. 1 has already been out on the course several times since playing his final match. Earlier this week, he had his first golf lesson. And he will put his skills to the test later this month at the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am.

Meanwhile, Federer is expected to be at the Laver Cup in Berlin from September 20 to 22. The Swiss player co-created the team tournament with his manager Tony Godsick back in 2017. He represented Team Europe four times and enjoyed his last dance at the tournament two years ago, joining forces with Rafael Nadal in a doubles match.
