Prince Harry suffers fresh Royal Family dig after New York appearance
Prince Harry has been criticised following a speech on online safety for children in New York City.
The prince’s address, delivered at the Clinton Global Initiative 2024 summit, highlighted the launch of the Archewell Foundation Parent’s Network, which is aimed at supporting parents as their children navigate online spaces.
During his speech, Harry called for greater accountability from tech companies in protecting young users.
The prince emphasised the need for consequences, adding: “Surely none of us want to live in a world where there is no consequence or accountability.”
However, Piers Morgan, who has issued multiple public attacks on the Sussexes over the last few years, fired a dig at Harry following the speech.
Morgan drew a comparison between social media’s harmful effects and Harry’s impact on the Royal Family.
He wrote on X: “Does he have any advice for how the Royal Family can be protected from the harmful effects of people abusing them in books, Netflix docs, podcasts and TV interviews with Oprah?”
Harry’s speech was part of a three-day visit to New York City from September 22 to 24.
During this time, the prince attended various charity and philanthropic events linked to the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week and Climate Week.
The Clinton Global Initiative summit was one of several engagements on his agenda.
During his speech, Prince Harry shared that his phone lock screen is of Archie and Lilibet as he delivered an emotional message on the importance of protecting children from the online world.
The Duke of Sussex pulled out his phone and glanced at the lock screen of his kids.
The screen behind him then displayed phone lock screen pictures of children who had died after taking their own life.
The Duke of Sussex continued: “These children and thousands more, meant the world to their families. The beautiful faces you see before you, their smiles, their dreams, all lost, all too soon and all because of social media.
“It is why we launched the Parents Network, a global community that provides crucial support to parents whose children have suffered from the harmful effects of social media.”
