Too Bad! Golf fans react to unexpected major updates on Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL
iger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL looks set for major expansion with three likely new teams in 2026.
Eagle-eyed account TeeTimesPub first spotted that TGL has this week filed a trademark for a presumed Detroit-based team called Motor City Golf Club.
A day later, Sports Business Journal’s Josh Carpenter reported that Chicago Links Golf Club and Texas Golf Club have both entered the mix, too.
“Chicago’s big run continues,” tweeted Carpenter.
“More trademark filings Thursday from TGL Holdings for Chicago Links Golf Club and Texas Golf Club.”
Little more than a month ago, there were multiple rumours surfacing on social media that a Dallas-based team potentially involving World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and three-time major champion Jordan Spieth was about to join Woods and McIlroy’s indoor league next season.
Given Scheffler and Spieth’s ties to Texas, we can hazard a good guess that both PGA Tour superstars could be set to join Texas Golf Club.
Other players not currently part of TGL with links to Texas include Will Zalatoris and Si Woo Kim.
Dallas-based residents Scheffler and Spieth reportedly chose not to initially get involved with TGL due to travel requirements.
With all matches staged at the SoFi Center in Florida, both Scheffler and Spieth weren’t convinced they could fit the regular Monday and Tuesday night fixtures into their playing schedules, especially with young families.
But there is expectation TGL could soon expand to multiple stadiums rather than just one in Palm Beach Gardens, which could offer added appeal for the likes of PGA Tour superstars Scheffler and Spieth.
