Judy Murray on her rags to riches story: Andy and Jamie had ‘no money’ as kids

The Wimbledon champ’s personal fortune soared to £120million last year when he became the world’s number one player after winning the prestigous title for the second time.

And the sports star – who turns 30 on May 15 – is raking in cash through sponsorship deals.

But Judy – coached her children when they were little – has insisted that life didn’t start out like that for her and her two sons, including Andy’s brother Jamie. The 57-year-old sports mum had to fight to make ends meet when her boys were little because she was so poor.

In an interview with House Beautiful magazine, she revealed their rags to riches story, and confessed that her sole focus was ‘getting food on the table’.

We had no money and very little time, so my focus was on getting food in front of them quickly to get them out to football or whatever.

‘If the house was messy, it didn’t bother me because it’s not important. What was important was that the boys were fed and clothed, had enough sleep, were happy and doing what they wanted to do,’ she said.

And Judy admitted back in 2015 that she once had to borrow £30,000 to keep the boys’ tennis careers going, and used Andy’s early winnings to pay it back.

Judy and Andy’s father, William, divorced in 1995 and she sold her £825,000 mansion last year, moving into Jamie’s old flat in London.

She said that although she insists on keeping her home clean, not much has changed in the tidiness department.

Judy told House Beautiful magazine: ‘I like to have no routine. I can be messy and, because I live on my own, it doesn’t matter. But I don’t like things to be dirty – everything has to be clean.’
