Phil Mickelson issues classy response after fellow LIV Golf man splits with long-time coach
Phil Mickelson expressed his admiration for fellow LIV Golf star Paul Casey and his long-time coach Peter Kostis, following the end of their 24-year partnership over the weekend.
Casey, who boasts three PGA Tour titles and 15 DP World Tour victories in his career, had been working with Kostis since the turn of the century. However, Kostis confirmed their separation on social media, tweeting: “Every teacher/student relationship has a half-life.
“Reluctantly, after 24 years I feel it’s best for me to step away from my work with Paul Casey. My reasons are both personal and private and will remain as such. Helping him become an elite ball-striker and world-class player from the days he left ASU all the way to today was a very rewarding journey and I wish him well going forward.”
Under Kostis’ guidance, Casey established himself as one of the top golfers globally, reaching as high as third in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). In 2022, the Englishman decided to switch gears by joining LIV Golf, following the path of Mickelson and others.
Mickelson took to social media to heap praise on his fellow pros, remarking: “What a long and successful partnership you have had together,” in response to a post from the renowned coach. “Congratulations to you both.”
