Serena Williams expressed her admiration for Rafael Nadal’s illustrious tennis career, stating it was a privilege to witness his journey.
Following Nadal’s final match, she noted he would leave a “lasting legacy.” The Spaniard, who clinched 22 Grand Slam titles over two decades, recently announced his retirement. Surprisingly, he played in Spain’s Davis Cup quarter-final against the Netherlands but lost 6-4, 6-4 to Botic van de Zandschulp.
Carlos Alcaraz, Nadal’s Davis Cup teammate, credited Nadal as his inspiration. Alcaraz shared, “Thanks to you I have become a professional tennis player.” He felt blessed to have idolised and then teamed up with Nadal. Alcaraz described Nadal as the best ambassador who leaves an eternal legacy. World number two Iga Swiatek reacted emotionally to a video of Nadal tearing up after his match. She responded with a crying emoji and commented, “Too much,” capturing the sentiment of many fans and players worldwide.
American Coco Gauff also showed her support by stating, “Today, I’m from Spain #Rafa,” aligning herself with the Spanish tennis icon during this poignant moment.
