A “Big Progress Week” for Spieth
After struggling to find his rhythm last season, Spieth is finally feeling like himself again. He contended for the title in Phoenix before ultimately finishing three shots under par, good enough for a T-4 finish.
While some might be disappointed to come up short, Spieth sees it differently.
“All in all, it was a big progress week for me,” Spieth said, as quoted by METRO. “I didn’t feel like this was a one-off.”
That last part is crucial—this wasn’t just one good tournament. This was a sign of things to come.
Not at His Best—But Still a Contender
What’s even more intriguing? Spieth believes he still hasn’t unlocked his full potential yet. Despite finishing fourth, he admits there’s plenty of room for improvement.
“It felt like this is just trending in the right direction,” Spieth said. “I’m pretty realistic with myself on that. My expectations have been low, like I’ve mentioned. Just trying to get a little bit better each time.”
That’s the mentality of a player on the verge of something big. If he can compete at this level while still feeling below 100%, what happens when he’s fully dialed in?
“I had certainly less than 100 percent of my potential this week as far as structure and what I’m trying to do. I hit a lot of good putts today that didn’t go in.”
