LIV Golf star opens up on addiction battle – ‘Everyday I chose drugs and alcohol’

Anthony Kim, the LIV Golf star, has hinted at drug use during his participation in major championships as he celebrates two years of sobriety. The former PGA Tour rising star had three victories to his name before he turned 24 and was a member of the triumphant United States Ryder Cup team in 2008.

However, following a severe Achilles injury in 2012 that necessitated surgery, Kim vanished from the professional golf circuit, only to reappear in 2024 when he joined LIV as a wildcard player. The 39-year-old has since openly discussed his battles with drug and alcohol addiction.

On Thursday, he posted a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on his past struggles and progress, including a photo of the numerous pills he had to take daily for safe narcotics withdrawal.

He admitted to contemplating suicide “every day for almost two decades, even while playing on the PGA Tour and used drugs to “numb the pain,” suggesting that he would consume substances while participating in major championships.
