Diamond, who has been McIlroy’s caddie for eight years, was criticised by some commentators for not being more assertive about club selection during the crucial closing holes, with wayward tee shots resulting in decisive bogeys. Despite this, McIlroy has staunchly defended his close friend, and their discussion before the tee shot at the 18th hole has been revealed in the new series of Netflix’s Full Swing, released on Tuesday.
