Rory McIlroy snubbed by potential Ryder Cup ally as Jordan Spieth called out
Thomas Detry snubbed Rory McIlroy as he named his dream practice partners ahead of the Masters.
The first golf major of the year at Augusta National is fast approaching and Detry, 32, will be regarded as a contender after securing his first PGA Tour title at the WM Phoenix Open by a commanding seven shots. However, the 2025 Masters will be Detry’s first taste of Augusta, meaning preparation will be vital for the Belgian.
Asked to pick his ideal practice partners at the testing course, Detry named three players who boast eight Masters titles between them. He told the GOLF’s Subpar show: “Tiger [Woods], Jordan Spieth and Scottie [Scheffler]. Tiger, I’ve never actually really met him, so I don’t know him. But it seems like he knows a thing or two about Augusta.”
Woods has five Masters titles to his name, Scheffler has donned the famous Green Jacket twice while Spieth won the 2015 tournament. In addition to their knowledge of the course, Detry selected Scheffler and Spieth so they could compare parenting notes as all three have young children.
