Rory McIlroy opened up about his near split from his wife, Erica Stoll, in Full Swing season 3.
After meeting at the 2012 Ryder Cup, the couple married in 2017 and welcomed their daughter, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy three years later. After winning his third DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in November 2024, the professional golfer thanked his wife and Poppy, for sticking by him.
“Their support means the world to me,” McIlroy told reporters, per CNN. “To be able to show Poppy what happened today and maybe some of the reasons why I’m not around all of the time … it’s incredible that they were here with me this week and I’m excited to go celebrate with them.”
He continued, “It’s been quite the year, but I’m super happy with where I am in my career and in my life, and I feel like everything’s worked out the way it was supposed to.”
The year in question included when McIlroy filed for divorce on May 13, 2024, and then announced that he and Stoll had decided to stay together just one month later.
This tumultuous time in McIlroy and Stoll’s relationship was explored in Netflix’s Full Swing. In a trailer for the show’s third season, which premiered on Feb. 25, McIlroy alluded to his near divorce and quick reconciliation with Stoll.
When McIlroy won the Players Championship in March 2025, both Stoll and Poppy were there to cheer him on and to celebrate with him after the tournament.
