Rory McIlroy Discusses Keeping His Life With Wife Erica Stoll Under Wraps: “Didn’t Want Any Fanfare…”

It was a moment brewing for eleven years, and he is now one of the six elite golfers who have accomplished this. However, one name was noticeably missing when he acknowledged his parents and caddie while standing on the 18th green: his wife, Erica Stoll.
Last year in May, McIlroy had filed for divorce after seven years of marriage, only to revoke the petition a few days later, indicating some sort of reconciliation between the couple. Thus, concerns over the status of their relationship were raised by the stillness surrounding Erica during his victory speech. However, during a recent press conference at the Truist Championship, McIlroy provided insight into his private life and his emotional journey following the Masters.
During the Truist Championship media conference, McIlroy gave an open interview about his time away from the spotlight after winning the Masters. “Yeah, we all went over as a family—Poppy, Erica, and I—first to see our new house there that we’ve been building for the last couple years,” he said when asked about his week following the tournament. “Then we spent the weekend in Northern Ireland. I wanted to see my folks and sort of my immediate family and Michael Bannon as well. We did that,” he further elaborated.
