Rory McIlroy living ‘two different lives’ as wife Erica Stoll skips US Open disappointment
Rory McIlroy has candidly shared insights into juggling his professional golf career with family life as a husband and father. Even after a challenging US Open, the golfer ended on a high note at Oakmont, delivering an impressive three-under-par 67 on Sunday. This was a stellar recovery for the world No. 2, who demonstrated visible frustration the previous day.
Having stuck to his guns by avoiding the media following the initial rounds, McIlroy faced journalists on Saturday, after round three, with unfiltered honesty. When questioned about skipping media responsibilities, he explained: “It’s more a frustration with you guys… I’m just, yeah, I don’t know. I have, I’ve been totally available for the last few years, and I’m not saying — maybe not you guys, but maybe more just the whole thing.”
Furthermore, he asserted: “I feel like I’ve earned the right to do whatever I want to do, yeah.”
The following day, McIlroy handled media duties and reflected on the dichotomy of his professional and personal lives, with wife Erica Stoll absent from the US Open.
“It’s always nice to get home,” he said. “I feel like I live two different lives. I’m a dad and a husband when I’m away from here, and then I’m who I am when I’m here. It’s always nice to get away and feel a bit of normality.”
