Injury setback forces Jordan Spieth to sit out final week before the Open Championship 2025
Jordan Spieth has been forced to withdraw from the Travelers Championship more than halfway through the opening round of the $20 million signature event.
The last several weeks have been a rollercoaster for Spieth, who recently made his feelings clear on the appointment of Brian Rolapp as the PGA Tour CEO. During the final round of the Memorial Tournament, he came inches away from hitting a fan with a wayward shot.
On Thursday, Spieth suffered from more bad luck at the Travelers Championship upon having to withdraw mid-tournament for the first time in his 297 career PGA Tour starts. He suffered a neck/upper back injury on the range ahead of the opening round at TPC River Highlands.
Despite being clearly hampered by the health setback, Spieth still managed to fight through 12 holes before the pain was eventually too much to handle. Moments after blocking an approach shot and letting out several grunts, Spieth conceded: “I just can’t do it man. I just can’t finish a backswing.”
Earlier in the day, he attempted to address the issue by undergoing treatment and using a massage gun on his neck region, but to little avail.
