‘I had dinner date with David and Victoria Beckham – Posh’s behaviour struck me’

Wayne Rooney insists Victoria Beckham is much funnier than she’s given credit for. Rooney has opened up about dining with the former Spice Girl and his former England team-mate, David. while they were living in Spain.
Rooney joined Manchester United 12 months after Beckham’s departure to Real Madrid, although the duo had already played together at international level. Rooney has recalled spending time at Beckham’s Spanish residence, where he was accompanied by fellow England internationals, including Frank Lampard. Speaking on his Wayne Rooney Show podcast for the BBC, he said: “I remember years ago we got invited to Becks’ for dinner.
“Opened the door and bumped his head. But yeah that was surreal and we sat there with Becks and Victoria having dinner, it was like…’ Co-host Kelly Somers then asked: “What was dinner? Was it posh?
Rooney, 39, revealed: “No. We met up with Becks and Victoria, me and Coleen, when he was at Madrid, and went for dinner then and we were having kebabs.”
Rooney singled out Victoria’s sense of humour, saying: “He’s obviously a great lad and Victoria’s such a lovely woman and funny. A lot funnier than people would think.”
Beckham’s spell in Madrid lasted four years before he made the revolutionary switch to the MLS as he joined LA Galaxy. Viewed as a surprising move at the time, the former England captain’s choice opened the door for the likes of Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole to make the transition to the States.
Recalling one particular social engagement, he told the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast: “It was the birthday of one of his sons. They had a party in a giant park and there were inflatable trampolines and the whole team was there, his whole family was there.
“I was playing with his son on the inflatable trampoline and we were jumping, and then out of nowhere, I notice the kid’s mum comes in, David’s wife, Victoria She started jumping with us and I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this with Victoria Beckham!’
“Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, ‘Wow, that just happened.'”
