What Andy Murray did in first-ever Grand Slam defeat that never happened again in his career

Murray, a then-18-year-old starlet, was looking to make a name for himself on one of tennis’ biggest stages.

While he did just that, he also received an unfortunate career statistic that he never suffered again in his career.

Murray burst onto the scene at Wimbledon in 2005, reaching the third round of the competition he would go on to win twice.

Murray defeated George Bastl and Radek Stepanek in his debut tournament at SW19 to set up a third-round clash with David Nalbandian.

Murray started sensationally against the 2002 Wimbledon finalist, notching up a two sets to love lead against the Argentine.

Unfortunately, from there things started to fall apart and Nalbandian managed to drag himself back into the game, largely down to Murray’s own fitness issues.

Nalbandian won the next three sets and defeated Murray, inflicting his only ever loss from two sets up in his career.
