Peter Phillips has described his mother as the ‘balcony enforcer’ at Buckingham Palace during the Queen’s official birthday events.
In an ITV documentary celebrating Princess Anne’s 70th birthday, he recalled: “You then get a clip round the ear and say right, ‘behave yourself, you know, we’re going out on the balcony,'” adding: “Don’t pick your nose and you know, don’t yawn.”
Historical footage from Buckingham Palace supports the notion of Princess Anne’s disciplinary role on the famous balcony. Notably, in 1987, she was seen attempting to calm a restless four year old Prince William during an RAF flypast.
