Queen Elizabeth’s secret list of flying demands revealed in never-before-seen list

Queen Elizabeth made 285 official overseas tours during her 70-year reign, travelling the world in her role as monarch.

The seasoned traveller had a number of in-flight requests to make her journey more comfortable, ranging from a martini, sugar-free mints and bringing her pillows from home. She also enjoyed following the route map while travelling.

The Queen’s flying habits have only just been revealed, as documents written by an air hostess assigned to wait on the late monarch 35 years ago have just come to light.

Elizabeth Evans, a flight attendant from Moseley, Birmingham, kept a detailed note of her and Prince Philip’s requests during their 1989 tour of Singapore and Malaysia.

The air hostess worked for British Airways for 28 years from 1970 and she kept a collection of mementos from her career, which includes menu cards and autographs from some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Rod Stewart, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Cliff Richard.

The treasure trove was recently discovered by her niece and will go up for auction later this week.

Some of the items, found in her study, include confidential instructions on how to look after the Queen during her flights.

One note said the Queen “tends to like a martini before her guests arrive”, while another said she liked a bowl of sugar-free Velamints beside her on take-off and in her dressing room.

The late monarch also requested to sleep on her own pillows from home and asked that her dress made up her bed.

Guests joining the Queen would be told what time cocktails would be served in the royal compartment and the monarch would be asked for her wine preference with dinner.
