Prince Harry and Meghan LIVE: Brutal verdict on faux royal tour of Colombia laid bare

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reason for going on a faux royal tour of Colombia is “self publicity”, according to a royal editor’s brutal assessement.

In The Sun’s podcast discussing the Sussexes plans to head to the South American nation famous for coffee and drug lords, royal editor Matt Wilkinson and royal journalist Victoria Murphy gave their views on the trip.

Prince Harry and Meghan will arrive in Colombia today (Thursday) at the invitation of Vice President Francia Márquez, where they will take part in several events, including a forum against cyberbullying.

The Duke and Duchess, in the South American country for the first time, will visit the capital Bogota before leaving for Cartagena and Cali on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts where they are expected at the weekend.

The expedition comes after the perceived success of Prince Harry and Meghan’s trip to Nigeria in May this year which was seen by many as boosting the couple’s profile.

Speaking on the Sun royal podcast, Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson said one of the main reasons the Sussexes were going to South America was “self publicity”.

Royal journalist Victoria Murphy added: “It is a very good question, why are they going to Colombia over any other country? Yes, they’ve been invited, but probably they have lots of invitations, you don’t kind of make a business plan or a career plan based on who invites you.

“They’ve got to have their own reasons for going for saying yes to this, and I think it is a little bit baffling.”
