Princess Anne’s unusual breakfast – and food habit she shares with brother King Charles

As Princess Anne celebrates her 74th birthday, attention has turned to her daily routine, including her rather unusual breakfast and the food habit that she shares with her brother, King Charles.

To sustain her busy schedule—last year alone, she undertook 457 official engagements—Princess Anne relies on a hearty breakfast. However, her choice is not what you might expect

Palace staff have revealed that Anne starts her day with a bowl of fruit, but with a peculiar twist. Former royal chef Darren McGrady shared that Princess Anne has a specific preference for her bananas.

“Princess Anne almost always preferred the bananas almost black—overripe—because they digested easier,” McGrady explained.

In line with royal tradition, which dictates that all food is eaten with cutlery, Anne’s bananas are prepared in a unique way.

McGrady described the process: “First, the ends of the banana are cut off. Then the banana peel is sliced down the middle from end to end so the unpeeled fruit can be opened. The fruit is sliced into circles and eaten with a fork.”

Anne’s dietary habits extend beyond breakfast. Much like King Charles, she often skips lunch, opting instead for quick snacks on the go.

Her daughter, Zara Tindall, once revealed that Anne always keeps a kiwi fruit in her handbag—a ‘superfruit’ known for its high vitamin C content and digestive benefits.
