‘Hold Your Scream’: Fans Erupt As Max Homa Admits Feeling ‘Worse’ for a Spectator’s ‘Ego’

Max Homa and shenanigans at the BMW Championship are an inseparable pair! Last year, his 5-foot birdie putt at the Olympia fields was interrupted by a fan yelling mid-stroke. Then, on the 17th hole, a drunk fan forced Homa to shout at him to clear the greens after a shot. This time, the drama unfolded on the nerve-wracking 15th hole during the penultimate round.

A déjà vu indeed. The 33-year-old golfer from California was already struggling at the 432-yard, par-4 hole. After two back-to-back bogeys on the previous two holes, just as he was preparing to putt on the 15th hole, the moment was disrupted by a scream from the spectator’s area— a chair had snapped and fallen. After the conclusion of the round, Erin Lopez, the spectator in question, came out with an apology for Homa and shared the reason behind her reaction on her X account.

Lopez wrote, “Sincerest apologies to @Maxhoma for the scream while you were putting on 15 today. Our chair snapped clean in half and the next thing I knew my boyfriend was on the floor.” The 6-time PGA Tour winner took the incident in stride, showing his usual sense of humor on social media when replying to the tweet. He ended up scoring another bogey on the hole.
