Serena Williams gives fans health update as she declares ‘I’m healthy’ after lump diagnosis
Tennis legend Serena Williams has revealed that she has removed a “grapefruit” sized cyst from her neck – and told fans that she is “getting better.”
The 43 year old sports star has been dealing with a cyst that ” kept growing”, for a while. Following a series of tests, she was given the all clear of it being malignant. But doctors were still worried that it could become infected or leak. And so it was at this point the mum of two underwent surgery and has now given her concerned and loyal fanbase a health update.
Posting a picture of herself in the hospital lying in bed, she captioned the post: “So this is me removing it. I am feeling so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy.” Serena, who has won the Grand Slam competition a whopping 23 times, added that she was “still recovering.” She added: “Still recovering, but getting better.”
The star, who married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, retired from tennis in 2022 after the US Open. Over a span of 20 years, Serena reached legendary status. Earlier this month, the married mum of one, introduced her 13-month old daughter to the world. The couple launched an Instagram account for Adira, who is the youngest sister of her seven year old sister, Olympia.
A message that accompanied the picture read: “Oh hello there – I know it’s been over a year but I’m just getting to this.” This was Adira’s first post to the world, in association with Serena and Alexis’ accounts. The post had a number of pictures for fans to peruse through. In one picture, she is seen sitting in a pink high chair, while looking at the camera.
