Novak Djokovic’s close friend addresses Andy Murray ‘problem’ after link-up
One of Novak Djokovic’s closest friends does not expect Andy Murray to cause any problems as part of the Serb’s coaching team at the Australian Open.
Last week, it was confirmed that Murray had agreed to coach Djokovic during the off-season in a surprise development. He will also work with his former rival at the Australian Open, with Djokovic looking to end his Grand Slam drought at the earliest opportunity.
The news raised plenty of eyebrows across the sporting world, while doubts have been expressed over whether the partnership will be successful. But one of Djokovic’s closest allies has lauded his decision to bring Murray on board as a stroke of genius.
Nenad Zimonjic, who has mentored Djokovic throughout his career, told Ubitennis: “Novak is a very smart guy in making decisions and his career is proof of that.
“Whenever he needed something really special in terms of coach and help, he reached out. The results are proof of that and I would say that he knows the best.
“They [Djokovic and Murray] know each other quite well and they’ve been playing against each other or together since they were kids. They have a similar style.
