Rory McIlroy mocks Scottie Scheffler over freak injury and urges rival to splash cash

Rory McIlroy has jokingly called out Scottie Scheffler after the golf star required surgery on a hand injury he picked up over the Christmas break.
Scheffler is gearing up for his first appearance of the year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am having been out of action for the best part of a month.
The injury came during Scheffler’s Christmas Dinner preparations, with the American having badly cut his hand on a wine glass while making ravioli.
McIlroy wasn’t having any of it though, as the Northern Irishman – tongue firmly in cheek – dug out Scheffler in the lead-up to this week’s Pro-Am event in California.
Commenting on his counterpart’s freak injury, McIlroy said: “I think he made enough money to hire a chef. It’s like why are you cooking yourself?”
McIlroy, not impressed with the reason Scheffler had to go under the knife, added: “I was hoping it was going to be a bit of a more fun story than that.”
The four-time major winner did show plenty of sympathy towards Scheffler though, adding: “We were together in Vegas on the 17th of December and played that match with Brooks and Bryson.
